Ipswich students Jade Davies and Urszula Sleckza are celebrating top class GCSE results today. The girls, both from Chantry Academy achieved ten A*’s, eight A’s and two B’s between them.

Jade’s results of eight A’s and two A*’s and Urszula’s eight A*’s and two B’s top a group of high quality achievers at the Academy. There were also brilliant performances from Megan Jay, who achieved five A*’s, four A’s and a B, Michael Jones – six A*’s, three A’s and one B, and Ligita Lazdauskaite – five A*s, three A’s and a C.

“It is great to see so many of our students achieving the top grades across all their subjects. They have responded well to raised expectations and challenges of the examinations. They should be immensely proud of their achievements as they are amongst the very best in the country,” said Principal, Craig D’Cunha.

Overall, Chantry Academy’s results have shown a significant improvement in the progress students have made.

On average, students made half a grade more progress in each subject than last year’s cohort.

This is demonstrated in Chantry’s Progress 8 score of exactly 0 – meaning students made expected progress, and were well above the Department for Education’s floor level of -0.5 and last year’s score of -0.6.

In English, 74% of students made their expected Level of Progress, an increase of 14% on last year’s figure. Furthermore, 28% of students surpassed their expected Level of Progress – also in English – an increase of 13% on last year.

There was an increase of 3% in the number of students who surpassed their expected Level of Progress in maths.

43% of pupils achieved five or more A* - C’s, with 37% securing five A* - C’s including English and maths.

Principal of Chantry Academy, Craig D’Cunha praised both the school’s staff and students for the progress.

“I’m delighted that so many of our students have made such positive progress and I would like to congratulate them all for their success.” said Mr D’Cunha.

“I would also like to thank the staff for supporting them and ensuring that they leave Chantry Academy well prepared for the next stage of their education.”
