Summary

I have been working as a teacher of English at Chantry Academy for 18 years, starting here as an NQT in 2001. My current role as Lead Practitioner involves working with trainee teachers to support their development as they move towards QTS. It is so rewarding to see teachers developing their craft and changing the lives of our young people. Mentoring of Trainee Teachers, Instructors and NQTs are my key skills and I love working with others to develop ways to support those starting their teaching careers
and in those early years when the way through can sometimes seem so daunting! As an English teacher, I have an innovative and creative approach to teaching. I develop resources and often share these on TES  and locally with colleagues. I would say a particular strength is assessment for learning – there is nothing more important than making sure our young people understand what they are doing well and how they can
develop and make further progress. Sharing this in a supportive way is their key to success. I have a love of reading especially Dickens and Austen and dislike the incorrect use of apostrophes!
