Pupils at Chesterton Primary School in Cambridge, part of the Active Learning Trust, are very excited to have a new outdoor play area and garden to enjoy.
The school is pleased to have been able to develop the existing outdoor learning environment for young children in the Early Years Foundation Stage.
The new play area, funded by the Active Learning Trust, has been specially designed to encourage curiosity, creativity and physical activity, supporting a wide range of learning opportunities for young children.
Features include a climbing frame, large sandpit, water wall, play builder engineering set, mud kitchen, playhouse and a planting area.
Children particularly enjoyed watching the diggers and builders as they resurfaced the floor and installed the mud kitchen.
When the new outdoor play area was unveiled, the children said:
“I feel happy and calm outside!”
“I like the climbing frame because we can climb!”
“When I first saw it, I felt happy and excited!”
Victoria Storey, Head of School at Chesterton Primary School, said:
“We are absolutely delighted to open the new garden. It has been designed with the children’s learning, exploration, and play in mind, and we are really pleased to provide a beautiful and engaging environment for current and future children at Chesterton Primary to enjoy.”
