Pupils from Pakefield Primary School in Lowestoft have recently had their artwork displayed at local contemporary art gallery, 303 Projects.

The gallery displayed artwork from children in nursery through to year 6 after Mrs Gow, the school’s art lead, reached out to artist Alexander Costello, the founder of 303 Projects, a not for profit contemporary art gallery.

The children and their families loved seeing their artwork displayed in the gallery and members of the public were also able to enjoy the exhibition.
All the artwork was created in class, with nursery pupils and reception pupils creating pieces that were inspired by the mini-orchestra that visited the school and performed Grieg’s ‘In the Hall of the Mountain King’. Some of the Year 1 and 2 pupils also created a painting of robins, reflecting a book they are currently reading.

Thanks to the partnership set up by Mrs Gow, the children can visit the gallery throughout the 2025 exhibition programme to experience and engage with a range of artwork. Artist Alexander Costello will also visit the school to deliver a workshop for the children based on the exhibitions.

Deputy Headteacher, Marie Rodwell said “We are very grateful to Mrs Gow for establishing a wonderful partnership which helps all our children engage with art and the gallery. It’s brilliant that so many families were able to visit the exhibition. It has been a really exciting, confidence-boosting activity for the pupils too. Thank you very much to Alexander Costello for supporting our school to make art and galleries accessible to all our children.”
