Staff and pupils at Albert Pye Community Primary School in Beccles are celebrating the launch of their ‘New to You Shed’ – in a clever way to share and repurpose pre-loved or gifted clothing, food and household supplies among the school community.
The new facility launched on Thursday 28th September on the grounds of Albert Pye Primary and is the result of generous donations from Beccles Townlands Charity, Councillor Ash Lever and the Albert Pye Friends (who include Maria List and Jemma Gooch Boags).
The ‘New to You Shed’ is open daily from 8:30-9am and has a variety of items for all families at the school from uniform, to coats and shoes as well as basic canned and dried food items, sanitary products and household items.
It was opened by Maria, Jemma (PTFA), Ken Leggett from the Beccles Townlands Charity and the new Wellbeing Champions from Albert Pye, supported by Mrs Waddington and Mrs Hodger.
Ms Louise Creed, Interim Head of School at Albert Pye said:
“We have been looking at different ways to support our families as the cost-of-living crisis continues. Our ‘New to You Shed’ will enable them to help themselves to items when times are hard and help is needed. It epitomises our school culture of kindness and community.”
Lynsey Holzer, Chief Executive Officer for The Active Learning Trust said:
“I am delighted to see the ‘New To You Shed’ has officially opened at Albert Pye and I know it will bring a great deal of valuable support to many local families. I would like to thank everyone involved for giving so much of their time and energy to this very worthwhile project.”
The community at Albert Pye will no doubt reap the benefits of this caring and sustainable new initiative for many years to come.
