Pupils at Chantry Academy in Ipswich achieved three gold, five silver and 10 bronze certificates in this year’s UK Maths Trust (UKMT) Junior Maths Challenge.

Over 250,000 pupils from across the UK sat the challenge. Approximately the top 6% achieved a gold certificate, the next 13% silver and the next 21% bronze.

The challenge was taken by pupils in Year 7 and 8, and consisted of 25 multiple choice questions. The test was timed at one hour and sat in school under normal exam conditions.

The Challenge is run by the UKMT and supported by the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries

Chantry Academy Principal, Craig D’Cunha, said: “Maths is such an integral part of children’s lives and I am delighted that our student’s talents have been recognised at a national level.”

Executive Director of UKMT, Rachel Greenhalgh, also praised the Ipswich pupils:

“The Maths Challenges provide material to provoke students’ mathematical thinking and test their problem solving skills in an accessible and yet challenging way.

“Many congratulations to Chantry Academy on their success in the Junior Maths Challenge; it is great to see achievement in mathematics recognised.”
